There is increasing emphasis on the importance of agricultural soils as a store for tonnes of carbon each year, not least in terms of helping the sector meet its commitment to net zero by 2040.

But what measures are needed to make soils an effective carbon sink, and what added value can sequestration bring to the farm business?

The panel will explore soil carbon farming not only as a possible future revenue stream but also in terms of how regenerative farming practices can help store carbon to improve soil health and overall productivity.

Join our experts as we debate the dos and don’ts of soil carbon farming.

  • What is soil carbon?
  • Why is it important for farmers?
  • How can you increase soil carbon?
  • What are the opportunities and risks surrounding monetisation of carbon credits?
  • How much control do farmers have over carbon certificates?

Speakers

Chair:

  • Andrew Meredith, Editor, Farmers Weekly

Panel:

  • Susan Twining, Chief Land Use Policy Adviser, CLA
  • Thomas Gent, Business Development, Agreena
  • Mike Harrington, Director, Edaphos
  • Rob Waterston, Farm Manager, Welford Estate Partnership

Agreena’s internationally accredited soil carbon certification programme quantifies, monitors, and reports GHG reductions and removal enhancements from a set of core cultivation principles that regenerate soil.

AgreenaCarbon was built in collaboration with soil scientists, agronomists and farmers from the outset. We support you in overcoming knowledge and financial barriers of the transition by connecting you to advisors and the voluntary carbon market.

Our priority is to put farmers first: to give you access to a new income stream that supports soil health, thereby securing the future of agriculture and the climate.

We give you the control and flexibility required to make a successful transition for your business. You decide on the pace of your transition and you have the option to keep carbon certificates for farm offset purposes, to sell as insets, or have Agreena sell for you (to buyers that meet the company’s screening policy).

Can you farm carbon?
