Several established forests and woodland parcels are for sale in Scotland and Wales, as well as a leading tree nursery business.

The increased interest in planting trees to combat climate change has resulted in a huge jump in the UK forestry market’s demand and values.

The value of the UK market increased 23% to £262.7m in 2021, making both established woodland and land suitable for planting a hot prospect.

Here’s a selection of what’s available across Great Britain.

Multiple Welsh woodlands

Forestry specialist Tustins has launched seven Welsh woodlands, totalling more than 350 acres.

The largest is 89-acre Waun Y Gilfach, Maesteg, South Wales, which is on the market for offers above £495,000.

Also available are Ddol Isaf, Llangollen, North Wales (81 acres, offers above £200,000), Perthybu Wood, Montgomery, Powys (73 acres, offers above £375,000), and Allt Hengeraint, Aberaeron, Ceredigion (46 acres, offers above £160,000).

On the other end of the scale are Coed Ty Llys, Brecon, South Wales (30 acres, offers above £120,000), Cefn Bran Wood, Llanfyllin, Powys (26 acres, offers above £180,000), and Penrallt Ddu, Cwmduad, Carmarthenshire (23 acres, offers above £110,000).

The high-quality established commercial Sitka spruce forest covers 358 acres, and is well placed for local and national timber processors.

Near Neilston, Glasgow, Galbraith is selling several parcels of amenity woodland, available as a whole for offers above £440,000 or in three lots.

The woodlands at Foreside total 109 acres and include a mixture of mainly native broad-leaf species.

Scottish tree nursery business

Christie Elite

Christie-Elite, one of the best known UK growers of commercial tree species, is on the market with Galbraith, for offers above £3m.

It is the only UK tree grower producing both bare-root and cell-grown saplings and one of the only nurseries in the world growing native Scottish montane species.

The Moray-based business, established in 1819, produces and ships millions of finished trees each winter to clients across Scotland, the UK and to Europe, for forestry, woodland and hedging.

Turnover is currently about £1.8 million and production volume is 6-8 million saleable trees a year. The sale includes the stock of finished plants on order and growing trees at various stages of development.

The landholding extends to about 53 acres of Grade 2 freehold land and about 109 acres leasehold.

The nursery holds significant built assets on site, including a range of heated and equipped polytunnels and stores used in connection with the growing and storage of the tree crop, as well as several useful buildings.
