Farming and rural communities will come together next month to celebrate the life of Len Eadon, a 22-year-old farmer and Harper Adams University graduate, who took his own life on 1 January 2022.

The Len Eadon Farming Family Day will be held at Kenilworth Showground, Stonleigh Park on Sunday 5 June from 11am-9pm.

It will be a day full of fun, challenges and reflection in celebration of Len’s life.

The event will raise money for the Farming Community Network (FCN), the Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) and suicide prevention charity Papyrus.

Len’s parents, Lynda and Andy, want to raise awareness of the importance of being able to talk openly and honestly about mental health – the good and the bad.

A website has been set up to pay tribute to Len.

“We feel privileged and honoured to have a son who touched the hearts of so many. It did not matter who you were, Len would give anyone and everyone the time of day,” Lynda and Andy said.

“Unfortunately, where others reached out to Len, he did not reach out when he needed it the most, and that is why we have launched the ‘Stay Safe and Talk Campaign’.

“We are enormously proud to say we are already making a difference, with young people across the country speaking out and openly, not only in honour of Len, but for themselves; to recognise the struggles and pressures around them.

“Len is much loved and will always be remembered. We could not be any prouder of him.”

Free event

The free community event, open to everyone, will feature a sheep shearing competition, tug of war, scarecrow fancy dress, welly wanging and lots more.

There will be several food and drink stalls and all purchases will help support the three charities – FCN, Yellow Wellies and Papyrus.

Andy will also launch the “five-a-day awareness challenge”, his new mental health initiative.

In the lead-up to the day, there are two events in Warwickshire this weekend.

Southam Rugby Club will host a rugby 7s tournament on Saturday (21 May). To donate to the raffle call: 07973 726381

On Sunday (22 May), a clay pigeon tournament will be held at Hill Farm, Watergall, Southam.

Entry is available on the day between 10am and 2pm, and there are prizes for open, novice, juniors and ladies. For more information email emily@emilypadfield.co.uk.
