Focusing on achieving higher yields with lower inputs, Kverneland’s Pudama is the Norwegian firm’s new precision seed drill.

Demonstrated in combination with the Optima TFprofi sowing unit, the innovative machine works by administering a focused shot of fertiliser via airstream when sowing maize.

The starter fertiliser is placed directly beneath the maize seed, a process that is controlled by a sensor to ensure the two products are placed at the same time.

This method, the maker claims, results in greater nutrient absorption as the fertiliser is only applied where the crop’s roots can actually access the minerals, rather than traditional blanket treatment methods that result in overuse of fertilisers.

Similarly, the focused-dose application also prevents excess nitrate and phosphate from leaching into water systems.

The implement can be worked at speeds of up to 15kph, which equates to up to 25 fertiliser spots a second.
