Producers supplying the Co-op Dairy Group through Muller will receive a farmgate milk price of 41.18p/litre from 1 June.

This is a 1.07p/litre rise for Muller Co-op-aligned suppliers based off a standard liquid litre consisting of 4% butterfat and 3.3% protein.

Prices are up by 10.75p/litre compared to the same month last year.

Glanbia Cheese

Cheshire-based processor Glanbia is offering a 2p/litre price increase from 1 June.

This will bring its manufacturing standard litre price with 4.2% butterfat and 3.4% protein to 42p/litre.

This is equivalent to a 13p/litre price rise compared to June 2021.

May price for Wensleydale

Wensleydale Creamery increased its manufacturing standard litre price from 1 May to 41.71p/litre.

Producers supplying the Yorkshire-based cheesemaker will receive a 2.67p/litre price rise for a 4.2% butterfat and 3.4% protein to 42p/litre, according to milkprices.com.

A liquid standard litre made up of 4% butterfat and 3.3% protein rose to 40.34p/litre, up by 2.58p/litre for the month.

Market price rises

During the first three months of 2022, GB milk price increases averaged 3.7p/litre, according to the AHDB.

Further price movements have continued throughout the first half of 2022, with processors and retailers trying to support the sector as on-farm costs rise.

Patty Clayton, lead analyst at the AHDB, said: “While higher market returns will be part of the reason for the rising farmgate prices, it’s likely that milk price changes are being fast-tracked by milk buyers to ensure sufficient cashflow on farms to stem any further reductions in milk production.”

Global dairy trade

The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) price index fell by 2.9% in the latest sale this week to average US$4,432/t (£3,571/t).

This is now the fifth consecutive reduction in the average price at the fortnightly GDT events after a period of strong growth earlier in the year.

Whole milk powder prices dropped by 4.9% to $3,934/t (£3,170/t), while prices for skimmed milk powder declined by 0.6% to $4,116/t (£3,317/t).

Trade at the GDT events is indicative of wider dairy market trends, and is often used to gauge price movements at farmgate level.

The total quantity of dairy products sold at the auction was 24,285t, largely made up of whole milk powder.
