FW Innovations Comp 2022: Arwel Davies’ concrete publish mould

Arwel Davies’ concrete publish mould has gained third place within the easy class of our Innovations Competitors.

Fed up with rotten picket gate posts, Arwel Davies constructed a three-section concrete publish mould from sheet metal and the light curve of an outdated New Holland Double Chop forager cowl.

The mould is held collectively by two lengthy threaded rods and an angle iron body that stops the center compartment from bowing when the concrete is poured in.

Gate hinges are welded to 2 reinforcing bars and positioned on the bottom of the mould, and one other two bars are pushed in for strengthening.

For the latch-side posts, 4 reinforcing bars are pushed in and picket battens are used to kind the slot. These are pulled out earlier than the concrete hardens.

The posts keep within the mould for about two days, after which they are often eliminated and left to harden for 10 days whereas a brand new batch is made.

Mr Davies admits that the best problem when making the posts is discovering a suitably flat spot within the yard.
