Full-size cab for JCB’s diddy new 514-40 Loadall

JCB has unveiled its smallest Loadall to date – the diminutive 514-40 that measures just 1.8m high, 1.56m wide and barely 3m long.

However, there’s no need for fully grown adults to fold themselves in half to inhabit the cab, as it’s identical to the full-size Loadalls.

That makes it 20% larger than the previous 516-40 and, according to JCB, 200mm wider than its competitors.

Modest power

Power is suitably modest, with its three-cylinder, 1.1-litre engine providing a princely 25hp.

Handily, this meets Stage 5 emissions restrictions without the complexity and cost of a particulate filter or AdBlue system.

Up to 67Nm of torque is sent through the Bosch hydrostatic transmission to a two-speed Linde motor that delivers a top speed of 15kph.

Permanent four-wheel drive and steering are both standard.

As the model numbering suggests, maximum lift capacity is 1,400kg and the offset boom will reach to 4m. Lift capacity at full reach is 525kg.

One perk of its pint-sized proportions is an unladen weight of just 2,695kg, which means it can be transported on a flatbed trailer behind a pickup for shifting between jobs.

Telematics system

Standard features include a 50mm tow ball with seven-pin electrics, road lights and JCB’s LiveLink Lite telematics system.

LED work lights are optional, as is the firm’s immobiliser keypad.

Up front there’s a new lightweight tool carrier for a 0.41cu m bucket or floating forks, and double-acting auxiliary hydraulics mean it can be used with a range of other JCB attachments.

Customers – most likely those with small farm buildings, vineyards, poultry sheds or polytunnels – can also choose between industrial and turf-compatible tyres.

The list price is £56,402.
