Claas adds 10m option to Disco mower lineup

German manufacturer Claas has updated its range of Disco mowers, with the addition of the 9.9m 1010 model – its largest mower offering to date.

Claimed to be the widest mounted disc mower without telescopic booms, the 1010, despite its near 10m width, has been designed for use on lighter tractors within the 150hp and 4-cylinder bracket.

The width can be adjusted between 9.7m and 9.9m via two setting positions on the boom, and the new model also features a redesigned main frame and headstock. This has made room for the main gearbox to be shunted to the rear, and the angular gearboxes are slanted by 2deg in a bid to reduce noise and wear.

The mower bed on the 1010 is also larger, with nine contra-rotating discs compared with eight and seven discs, respectively, on the smaller Disco 9300 and 8500 models. This can be operated at a lower pto speed of 850rpm, which the maker says equates to diesel savings of up to 20%.

Road transport

The 1010, unlike the smaller members of the Disco range, benefits from the firm’s butterfly-like vector folding system for road transport.

The outriggers on the rear mowers fold hydraulically to 120deg, shifting backwards on a slanted angle which ensures the mower combination remains below 4m.

This is expected to reduce tail swing when travelling on roads and turning in and out of fields.

Maintenance

All Disco mowers built after 2022 have received a new paint job; the caps and mower blades on the anti-clockwise rotating discs have been colour coded in red, making maintenance and replacement easier.
