Arla and Medina announce milk price rises

Arla’s farmgate milk price is set to increase by 0.34p/litre to 39.72p/litre for a standard manufacturing litre from 1 April.

The on-account price for Arla is based on 4.2% butterfat and 3.4% protein.

The Arla organic manufacturing standard litre will also increase by 0.34p/litre to 47.17p/litre, with every other day collection.

Arthur Fearnall, Arla Foods amba board director and farmer owner, said that while commodity prices continued improving in February, and an increase in the farmgate milk price is welcome, we cannot get away from the fact that the cost of producing milk is continuing to increase like never before.

“The pressures on farm are ever mounting as our farmer owners try to balance continued significant inflationary costs, with ensuring and investing in industry leading standards in animal welfare and sustainability to meet consumer demand,” said Mr Fearnall.

“These pressures are being felt everywhere and while a positive outlook is welcome, there are still some unknown impacts of the war in the Ukraine.”

Medina price rise

Medina Dairy is increasing its liquid standard litre price by 2p/litre to 39.8p/litre from 1 May.

This follows on from a 2p/litre milk price rise announced earlier in the month for its core Watsons milk price, which is set to begin from 1 April.

Medina Dairy chief executive Sheazad Hussain said: “We know that our farmers are continuing to be impacted by an unprecedented rise in on-farm costs, especially in relation to feed, fertiliser and energy.

“In the light of this, we are continuing to work hard to secure commensurate price increases from our customers.”
